If they Were Bullied

being bullied

It is alarming to discover that many children are bullied by their peers. If an adult feels bad when someone takes advantage of them, imagine how a child feels when he is forced to do or give-up something. Most kids who are bullied suffer from depression, low self-esteem, and some develop substance abuse problems, or it may lead them to suicide. A study was conducted to better understand bullying; it shows that children are bullied because they fail to do the norm or what is socially accepted by other kids their age.

The real problem here is not with the kid being bullied but with the bully himself. He may be insecure and have family problems, and the only way he can take control of his life is through punishing other people. If you suspect your child is being bullied you need to talk to him and assure him that you will help and stay by his side. Talk to the members of the school faculty and the bully himself to put a stop to this. Doing so will help your child and the bully as well.

Common Summer Illnesses in Children and How to Avoid These

In most places in the country, heat waves and humidity are affecting how children play. Since children do not realize how heat affects their bodies, they continue to play and do not stop even when they need to. It is best to know the treatable options for these illnesses before they start or after they catch them. While you do not want your child to avoid having fun, you also want them to do it safely.

In places in the southwestern part of the U.S., temperatures are soaring to the low 100’s, even reaching 110 or more. Anything over 100 degrees means the sun is extremely strong and even though there is not so much humidity, the air is still thick and full of heat waves. It is important to keep children hydrated and cool. Even if they are hydrated, they can still get sunstroke and that means they have overheated and need to get out of the sun. Children will experience a high fever and even sudden exposure can cause heat stroke. This can be easily avoided as long as you regulate their time in the sun and teach them how important being hydrated and cool is.

The trick to keeping a child cool in the summer is water play. While this is great for taking up lots of time and fun for them, it can be another cause of illness. Water-borne diseases like enteroviruses are caused by contaminated water, such as pools and lakes. The levels of chlorination are too low to block the diseases. The symptoms are upper-respiratory infection, vomiting, diarrhea and sometimes skin rashes. They clear up in a few days, but are easy to avoid if you know the area they are playing in or make sure they are wearing a swimsuit and shirt. E-coli is another sickness traced to contaminated water and even though it disappears with treatment, can be very painful.

For those children who have been diagnosed with asthma, summer is one of the seasons that can really spark an attack. There is a lot of air pollution and high pollen levels. Humidity also causes asthma attacks because it thickens the air. Since children are probably playing more sports in the summer, its key to have their medication on hand at all times. An asthma attack can not only be fatal, but is extremely time sensitive. Fast acting inhalers are usually best in the type of situation involving a small asthma attack.

By following these tips, it gives you a chance to prepare and alleviate the chances of your child becoming ill. These common summer illnesses can be easily avoided with the right prepping and knowledge of these heat related illnesses.

Raised by a Single Parent

Divorce is very common nowadays, some parents do not realize that while this may be a good decision for them, their child might be left feeling confused and hurt. Some children feel like it is their fault why their parents chose to part ways. There are a lot of things why this happened but a child may not understand this easily. The issue with who gets to keep who is also a major factor for confusion, a child may be angry and feel like this is a game his parents are using to hurt him intentionally.

To avoid these ill feelings from your child, make him see that even if you are now separated from your husband or wife you will still continue to love him unconditionally. Participate in school activities for parents so your child will not feel left out. You can also meet your child’s friends and make them see that you are cool so they will be more accepting of your kid. These are small steps that will lead to your child’s happiness even if he is raised by a single parent.

What to Expect in Camp Chateaugay

For parents who want their kids to enjoy the summer through camping, getting them registered in Camp Chateaugay would be a great idea. Located on the north shore of one of the lakes in Adirondack, this camp serves as a playground where children could engage in a variety of activities, such as creative arts, trips, and different sports. It includes a lakefront stretching a quarter-mile, along with 50 acres of land.

One of the best things about Camp Chateaugay is that you get to choose your own schedule. The staff doesn’t require anyone to get into any activities, other than swimming in the Chateaugay lake, which would most likely be something that everyone would like to do. The camp will assign two activity periods, while younger campers will have three. Each individual will engage in the activities along with others in the same cabin. Once they’ve already chosen their desired activities, they will then be given 3 or 4 electives for each day, which will depend on how old they are. Choosing the electives will be done every start of the week. While the kids have the privilege of selecting the activities they want to do, the instructors of Camp Chateaugay will train them so they could excel in those particular fields.

The campers will be staying in cabins with bathrooms and showers included. For every cabin house, 2 to 3 members of their staff resides to check on around 10 campers, who will have their own cubbies for keeping their valuables.

As for Camp Chateaugay’s staff, they are experienced not only in camping, but also in their own fields, so they could efficiently help develop the campers’ skills and talents in their chosen activities. You may also find that some of their staff have once been professional athletes, so you could ensure that they could train your kids well enough. The senior staff unit leaders, on the other hand, are backed by college counselors.

The feedbacks coming from parents have been generally positive, where some even regret not having their kids stay for a few more weeks in the camp.
