Busan, Seoul

“ An nyoung ha sen yo”, say “Hello” to Busan. Busan is a popular place for filming movies and TV series. It is a home to some of the largest film studios. Busan is roughly 450km southeast of Seoul and 150km northeast of Japan’s main Islands. This city has a great road network, bus and subway system, thus, smooth ride is ensured upon touchdown at the airport.

It is also recommended to travel via train as its efficiency and network is comparable to Singapore’s MRT. By summer, this city hosts events like the Arirang Yachting Championship and the International Performing Arts Festival. Dining? Best breakfast in Busan consists of rice served in hot beef soup with small dishes of pickled vegetables (kimchi). You must also try eating live octopus first dipped in sesame oil so it won’t stick. Korean barbecues are perfect also and are served in a place just behind the Grand Hotel.

When travelling to Busan, don’t forget to try swimming in the open sea of Haeundae-ku during October mornings since the water’s not too cold and don’t forget to bring home their unique and yummy Lotte chewing gum in sesame seed flavor. It is time to invade Asia!

Mayon Volcano

Legaspi is home to the Mayon Volcano known for its famous perfect cone. Located in Daraga, Albay this volcano can be seen in its entire splendor by rising early at 7:00 am and jogging up to Lignon Hill. Legaspi is also home of the Cagsawa Church. The belfry tower is one of the famous landmarks in the Philippines. Volunteer guides are readily available to tell you gladly about the history of this beautiful structure.

By night, if you are trying to relax, go to Penaranda Park or Freedom Park. Albay Capitol Annex has several good places to eat and drink. Food trip? Try the Guinobatan longganisa with garlic fried rice and egg for breakfast and Adobong Bicol, pinangat (the Bicol version of laing) and Bicol Express for dinner. Try also the different varieties of pili nut candy- they’re addictive!

If planning to go out of town, try going to Legaspi which is best in the summer from March to May as it caters so much stuffs to enjoy during this season. Plan your summer trip for next year, take Legaspi as an option!

Ayala Terraces

This is one of hubby’s photographic shot of Ayala Center Cebu’s terraces. I just knew that this part of Ayala Center is called terraces because the area was used to be a simple lagoon. Ayala transformed it to a food area and beverage strip with the signature Ayala-landscaping and orchestrated water features. It is an overlooking view from the Mall’s veranda. We could see strollers and shoppers all around. It was said that on an average day, more than 85,000 people visit Ayala Center Cebu and the figure is even more on weekends. The ambience of the park is great. The lights during nighttime complement the beautiful landscape.

Balanghay Shrine Museum

“Madyaw na Hinaat” that is greeting someone good morning in Butuan. I have visited this place twice already. It is a 10-hour drive from home though air buses are now readily available. Locals in Butuan believed that Butuan’s Masao was the site of the first mass ever held in the Philippines in the year 1521. They claim that “in the beginning, there was no Philippines; there was Butuan”. This place is the home of the “balanghays”, those boats with simple sails that were able to travel at sea. If you are interested in history, this place is right for you.

By day, you can check the Balanghay Shrine Museum in Ambangan, Libertad located near the El Rio de Butuan. You will be able to see different out- of- the- ordinary artifacts excavated at the site. By night, you can visit Barangay Bingkilan where the only cable-stayed bridge with steel deck and single tower in Mindanao is located. It is the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge. Want the best breakfast ever?

Head for the True Brew Coffee Shop where they serve the best coffee plus sandwiches and tacos. Best buys? Try Butuan’s Palagsing, a rice cake delicacy similar to suman that Butuan is famous of. What are you waiting for? Explore Philippines, explore Mindanao!
